How does this connect to the NDIS?
If you are LGBTIQA+SB and have a disability or are neurodivergent, you might use the NDIS.
NDIS services must respect all parts of who you are.
Good providers should:
* Let you share what you want, when you want.
* Use your name and pronouns if you share them.
* Never push you to explain your identity.
* Understand that being queer, trans, or intersex can affect the kind of support you need.
* Help you feel safe and seen.
* Respect your culture and how you choose to share your story.
Why is this important
Sometimes people do not feel safe to “come out” because they have been hurt or judged before.
“Inviting in” allows you to build trust gradually.
This helps you feel more comfortable getting the proper support.
It is okay to only share with people who respect you.
For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, it also means keeping culture strong and choosing how to tell your story in a way that feels right for you.
