IN THIS LESSON

This isn’t about making excuses—it’s about reclaiming space and setting the terms for how you want to be treated.

If they’re not hearing you—pause. You’re allowed to ask for better.

It’s okay to stop a conversation if someone’s disrespecting your culture, gender, or sexuality. You can say:

“This doesn’t feel respectful of my identity.”

“I’d prefer to speak with someone else who’s been trained in cultural safety.”

“I need a break and someone with me next time.”

You deserve culturally safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed support. Not just as a checkbox—but in practice. That means workers should understand things like:

• Why “family” means more than just parents or carers for mob and communities.

• How to create space for gender-diverse identities like brotherboys, sistergirls and others.

• Why silence doesn’t mean consent, and why trust has to be earned, not assumed.
