Chapter 1
IN THIS LESSON
Flexible Environments & Routine Adjustments
Rigid environments can make participation difficult. Autistic people often need predictability, control over their routine, and flexibility in where and how they engage with services.
🔹 Examples of Flexible Accommodations:
✔️ Working or studying from home when needed
✔️ Shorter hours or adjusted schedules
✔️ Flexibility in therapy session formats (e.g., online, in-person, or a mix of both)
✔️ Access to sensory-friendly or quiet locations
✔️ Ability to leave early or take breaks without penalty
💡 NDIS Support Options:
• Funding for support workers to help with daily structure
• Assistance with transport options to make appointments more accessible
• Help with developing predictable and structured routines
