How to Ask for Adjustments
Advocating for your needs can feel difficult, but accommodations are your right. When talking to NDIS providers, support workers, employers, teachers, or therapists, you can use clear and direct requests.
Example Phrases for Requesting Accommodations:
"I need written instructions and quiet breaks to stay focused."
"Please use my pronouns and explain things slowly."
"Can we meet in a quieter place? Loud spaces overwhelm me."
"I need extra time to process information before I respond."
"I prefer communicating through text rather than phone calls."
NDIS Support Options:
• Advocacy support to help you communicate your needs
• Training for providers to ensure they understand neurodivergent and LGBTIQA+ experiences
• Funding for assistive technology that makes communication easier
